In this course, we’ll take the basics out into the real world to improve on distance, distraction, and duration. Count on varying scenarios and some fun while we work on perfecting behaviors together!

Graduates of this class can join our Puppy Advanced course.

• Instructor: Meg Johnson, CTC ‘15 graduate of The Academy for Dog Trainers

• Number of sessions: 5

• Frequency and Duration: 50 minutes per week on Saturdays from June 8 to July 20 (no class on June 15 and July 6)

• Time: 12:00 p.m. - 12:50 p.m.

• Venue: Jeffrey’s North Beach (1841 Powell Street, San Francisco)

  REQUIREMENTS

  • 4 months old or above

  • Completion of Puppy Basics or a similar introductory group course at another puppy training facility

  • Puppy must have been in your home for AT LEAST 10 days prior to the first meeting. This is for the health and safety of all our puppy students. If your puppy has been in your home less than 10 days, you can attend the first class WITHOUT your puppy and then practice at home during the week.

  • Your puppy must be FULLY vaccinated AT LEAST 7 days prior to the first meeting.

  • Bordetella (Kennel cough) and Canine Influenza Virus H3N2/H3N8 vaccines recommended, but not required. Please consult your veterinarian.

  • Your puppy must not attend class wearing a slip, shock, choke or prong collar. Flat collars or harnesses ONLY.

  • This course is not appropriate for fearful, aggressive, reactive dogs or dogs who bark excessively. Owners of dogs who exhibit signs of these issues are encouraged to seek out private training.

  WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Basic, simple 6’ leash

  • Flat collar or harness

  • Lots of high-value, small treats [Treats must be of high value because we will be working in distractions and nothing is more distracting than other puppies]

  • Several items for your pup to chew on (For example, stuffed kong, bully stick, beef tendon, etc.)

  • Small rug, blanket, or towel (Washable as this may get slightly dirty)

  • Your puppy
